Griet and I were married in a quiet ritual on a sunny day. In the evening we celebrated our wedding with some friends and the children around the fire. For weeks the image of this painting burned on my retina and on our wedding day the image kept coming back. By the end of the party I decided to make this work.
I painted on for 16 hours and then, over a few months, I finished the painting. In August 2008 I got the chance to make recordings for a new CD. I felt like I had to take the painting with me and placed it on the altar that I had made especially for these shots. Without any predetermined ideas for these recordings, I prayed and opened myself to Inspiration.
During 4 consecutive nights I worked on the recordings of the CD ‘Journey Home’. In my experience the painting became more and more prominent. The symbols and images began to work more and more clearly in my inner space, as if they wanted to sing through me. As if the sounds that came through represented the painting, and the painting the sound. This painting is also on the cover of the CD of the same name.
Since then I am very quiet when I am with this painting. It opened a new path for me, both in the inner dimension and in my artistic work.
Eagle is a powerful symbol for the spirit. “Journey Home” shows the journey of the soul, traveling through the worlds of form, ever closer to true essence, formless and timeless.
One of the symbols in this work came to me later in a dream and moved through my body as a healing power. This symbol is central to “Completion”, one of the works that I am currently working on.
